In 2021 the NEAR NORTH ENVIRO EDUCATION CENTRE joined the effort to save Ontario Turtles. NNEEC is working to conserve and rehabilitate their habitat, catalogue and protect these at risk reptiles.
Phragmites
The NEAR NORTH ENVIRO EDUCATION CENTRE has partnered with the Phragmites Working Group: Lake Bernard who has taken the lead in the quest to eradicate Lake Bernard of Phragmites.
The Centre is also working with other Almaguin communities to assess the invasive plants presence ind train of more "Phrag Fighters."

Launched in the summer of 2017 and refined in further years, NNEEC is providing opportunities for employment, and educating young leaders, while providing an active, educational and fun day program that includes activities such as swimming, canoeing, arts & crafts, sports and games for children ages six to fourteen.
The Near North Innovation Symposium is NNEECs education vehicle that tackles timely issues at a very high level. In 2017 Environmental Sustainability, Economic Security and Social diversity, all through the lens of rural communities was examined. In 2019 Climate Change: Are We Ready?" was the topic. In 2020 "Our Health: Taking on the Environment" was the headline.
